Innovation in Healthcare Report - Research Strategies in Design

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

During semester 1, 2021, I created a research report for my Research Strategies in Design unit. This report was graded a high distinction and showcases the real need for innovation in the health care sector.

The research report explored the topic of innovation in healthcare and the need for strategies targeting patient-centered design. Improving patient’s quality of life starts with improved access of care that encompasses care that prioritises the patient’s needs and experiences. This report included a literature review covering insights into the development of innovative decisions, interventions and efficient management strategies, as well as common challenges faced in healthcare. It was identified that effective management is needed for business models and maintenance of technologies to sustain the effectiveness of patient-centered interventions. Access of care was identified as a needed focus. Therefore, design decisions require considerations and strategies that improve access of care for patients, as part of efficient patient-centered care. The report also discussed the future of technology advancement and how it should be used to enhance patient-centered design, rather than the only focus being on technology. The research methods used are the inductive approach, comparative studies, and case studies. The research methods successful identified findings to form an extensive analysis and discussion.
